How to use
Talyx findings are straighforward to use as long as you follow a few simple
guidelines:
I have tried several different glues with the bails, as a common problem is bails falling off. Obviously, none of us want to send jewellery out to customers if this is going to happen. I have found that Hxtal works well. It is a strong two-part epoxy that has the advantage of drying clear. However, it needs exact mixing and has quite a long curing time. I have spoken to my distributor about mixing and using Hxtal, and this was the advice:
* Measure out in fine syringes (ie that measure 0.1 ml), using a blunt hypodermic needle to draw up the glue. Use one syringe for the resin and one for the hardener, label each one and keep them separate.
*Mix together, using the hypodermic needle or a cocktail stick, for at least a minute. You must get into all the corners and thoroughly combine the resin and hardener.
*Small amounts of glue have a longer curing time, and curing time is also affected by temperature. Heat will speed the curing process up, so putting your glass and bails near a radiator or on a sunny window ledge will help. Expect curing times to be shorter in summer and longer in winter.
My advice is to keep the leftover glue and poke it every now and then with your cocktail stick. If it leaves an impression, it’s not cured. Don’t try to move the bails around until that point is reached. The glue and the bails are too expensive to waste.
Be creative about using Sellotape to fix the bails in place – it’s quite tricky to do this on both the ring and cufflink bails, so think about the best way to do it before you apply the glue.
Remember – you are aiming for the glue to be hidden under the bails, not to be shown splodging out round the sides. If you get excess glue showing when fixing the bails, wipe it all off with kitchen roll and start again.
Earring Bails
Apply to the back of the glass as above. When the glue is completely dry, take
a pair of non-serrated flat nose pliers and very gently grip the loop of the silver
bail. Gradually bend the loop forward to angle it slightly - this will help the
earring to hang properly.
